Help Etz 250

Postby dwc » Fri Sep 07, 2012 7:37 am

Good afternoon.
After failing to sell my ETZ 250, I 've resolved my self to getting it running and using it.

The problem I believe is the ignition system, I have power everywhere else. Firstly does anyone know the relative merits of either system currently sold by Burwins or Speakman. Secondly are they easy to fit,and thirdly does anyone live in the East Berks area who would be able to offer assistance?

I'm desperate now to get this bike on the road.

In anticipation

Hi Dwc, I live in basingstoke hampshire, and have friends in berkshire, I take it you are looking at converting to an electronic ignition system...?
I reckon the powerdynamo system is the best on the market at the moment, They also do a conversion kit that uses the standard rotor and stator plate, but converts just the ignition to an electronic system it uses all the standard parts including the battery.

On my ETZ125 I was originally going to convert to a fully electronic system such as the ones sold by Phil Speakman etc, but ended up refurbishing all the original wiring, fitting a solid state reg + a japanese headlamp, Japanese bullet connectors under the seat.......All seems to work well for a total outlay of about £25.00.

Hi,
Thanks for the comments. The bike is already fitted with an electronic ignition system, I believe sold by Burwins. It is a simple case of replacing old with new. I have tried to identify the existing one with Martin at Burwins but to no avail.

How about posting a picture of the box, someone on the community is bound to recognise it.

probably a good idea... do it correct and nice and it will serve you long and well....

my rt125 4stroke runs as good as any thing i have ever owned and will be part of my estate sale

the only thing i would consider trading it for and that's a new in the crate
1976 BMW R75/6 with Dellorto carbs
as i do not like the Bing CV carbs

it and the r60/6 are about as good as it gets for a solid daily driver

the mz 2 strokes are in the class as top of the line for 2 stroke daily drivers ....
fix it in the shed sat afternoon and run it all week

if i was down to nothing to ride and looking an etz 250 would not escape

dave
ps i do not like 2 smokers but the etz 250 runs great when its fixed proper

Morning folks,

Despite my best attempts not one of the motorcycle shops in my area are interested in touching the MZ and doing the electrics for me. It's almost comical when I here the sharp intake of breath and the refrain,"I wouldn't know where to start, blah blah"
How difficult can it be? I don't have the time and I'm willing to pay. Are times so good that firms can afford to turn away jobs?
I will have to persevere on my own.

electrical is a real problem so few people know what there doing ...

i am getting ready to retire ..a local car dealer wants me to go to work for him''
car electrical

i said NO after 60 years if my name is not on the car title i do not want to work on it

working on my own bikes and radios will keep me busy enough

one problem with some bike dealers is there insurance company only covers work done on brands
there workers have had factory training on unless its a trade in
in the uk burwins in london is about all there is for the 2 smokers

Hi DWC.

Have you heard of this Mobile Motorcycle Electrician, well recommended in the classic bike press, and known to have worked on MZs.

Hi,
Yes I do, I've used Ferret in the past to rewire a Moto Guzzi T3. Good worker but expensive and a long waiting list.
