ETZ Points question

Postby Andy_C » Thu Jun 16, 2016 3:04 pm

I recently acquired an ETZ that has nor run for sometime - years may be.

When I bought it the vendor had go it running and had fitted a new set of points, unfortunately he did not replace the cam on the end of the crank that was so rusty it resembled sandpaper.

Now the question, I have fitted a new cam and find that the points have to be positioned at the extreme end of their adjustment in order to get the right firing point, as I did not replace the points I can only assume that the old rusty cam had worn down the heel of the points which is causing the problem.

Does this seem a likely cause? The new cam came from a very reputable source so have no doubt that it is right.

Just cannot get my head around this one.

i would say the old rusty cam ate tooo much plastic off the tab
also there are problems with really old old new old stock points

as over the years the spring has lost its tension as the spring was cocked ready for installation
