Supa 5 Emergency Start

Postby JohnP » Tue Jul 19, 2016 10:31 am

Hi I am new to the Forum and I am here because I have a problem with my TS250/1. When battery is flat there is no spark on emergency switch position. When battery is charged and engine is running then it will run on emergency until the revs drop to a very slow tickover then it cuts out. It seems like it needs a few revs before it will go on emergency. What does yours do? Maybe this is normal and bumping it may be the only way to get it started with a flat battery....John P

the e start on old bikes worked after a fashion on all of them
my Harley hummer 125 (about 1958) worked best with a 6 volt car battery on the pillion rack
charged over night (6 v generators are a joke..)
a small 6 to 7 volt RC car or airplane battery in the tool bag could save a bit of grief
some day

the big joke was the bmw r26/r27 with a 6 volt system
my r 27 had a huge 6 volt car battery in a saddle bag
we called it the electric bike
charged each evening
loved the r27 wish i had kept the 2 i had
other than the 6v system it was great

I'm not sure if the 'emergency position' is just a myth or rarely works to practically no one anymore than using the normal ignition position on a poor battery.

These bikes require some battery life in order to start and run. It is an alternator, not a magneto which considering it is a bike I would prefer.

Bump starting will do no good on a flat battery either. The spark comes from the battery. Full stop.

The key, if you happen to get it started is to keep it revved up above 3k until you're ready to hop on and just damn well ride it and hope the traffic don't stop. It doesn't take all that long to get the battery to a satisfactory level to keep the engine idling though, which is good. I can't find the figures in the manual but they are pretty respectable.
