MZ/MuZ Riders

Can anyone help i have a 1980 mz 250 bike runs and starts fine but can not get the indicators working, still on 6 volt electrics and all bulbs are ok. Just fitted new battery but still no joy. The right hand side did work for a short time but now nothing at all. regards Mick.

test the right and left wires and the switch even the newer 4 stroke bikes are getting past there prime
and wiring has always been a weak point

i have had the switch for my 2002 rt125 apart for a cleaning twice in it life
do not loose any parts or you will need a new switch

in some cases a ground wire from frame to handle bars may help
as the grease in the head stock may be causing a bad return path
to ground
and clean up the bulbs and there contacts

A) Check the bulbs are actually 6v,
B) Check the relay is actually 6v, user a multimeter to see if it is conducting too
C) Check the bulb wattages, You may find that you should use say 8W on the rear, and 15w at the front, or 8w all round or indeed 15w all around..

Further to Blurredman's B), with the indicator switched on & relay connected, try tapping the relay with your finger; it might get going again. Mine (12V) did, for a short while (so its still busted - magnetic coil probably partly shorted due to corrosion, giving unreliable contact).

Check there's no short as the indicators are not very well made and can short out internally when you replace a bulb or reflector.
