The one I had made has started to bend so will get it fixed.

I got a double spring one from a friend which fits better and bike is more upright.

but prefer it to stay down so I can get off the bike onto the side stand.

if I took one spring off then would it stay until I kicked it back up?

I have two spring model, and the purpose is that when fully opened, one spring pulls it open, the other allows quick retraction fully when simply kicked. One spring normally just accomodates the full retraction. I think... Either that or I need to grease things up.

One quesiton I have is that I have two original side stands, but one of them the spindle spacer is significantly thicker than the other- infact I cannot even fit it without some modification (i've never got around to it!). Is there a width difference on the swingarm 250 over 251?
