Thanks. Yeah I removed it by keeping the bracket on the tank.

Right so I just stuck some coolant in the tank and I'll keep an eye on it. It's a little under half full which should be ok as there was none in it when I started. Found some perished lines from radiator to tank which I sorted which meant the PO was running out basically without an expansion tank.

All connections in the harness cleaned, new air filter-the old one was saturated in oil as was the air box and the little bubble thing under the box. New plug-NGK DPR7EA gapped to .7mm, valves checked-inlet were good but exhaust were a tight .15mm so opened em up a bit. I'd say about .17. They sound quite noisy at that actually. Two new tyres, new ignition barrel and aftermarket can fitted.

The back brake lever is way too high and other than a small amount of adjustment possible on the little screw that seems to be it. Too much just pushes the brake on. Maybe I'll resort to heating the lever and battering it with a hammer to lower it some.

Oh yeah and I had a play with the carb sync screw. I only screwed it in about 1 1/2 turns just to see what difference it makes.

After a quick 8-10 mile run I'm pretty happy with how it's running. Nice Nice. I'll keep an eye on the plug to see how it's doing.

Common problem, also check the oil breather from the back of the engine. That one perishes at the same age.

Take a look at the pushrod where it enters the rear master cylinder from underneath, there's a clip that pops off, then you can adjust the length of the rod and hence the pedal height.

A couple of other common problems to check for is that both fans spin, and that the connections to the fan thermo switch are secure. Mine have played up twice in the last nine years (both times in Belgium for some reason?).

Ah thanks for the brake info 'Arry. I have a look. Both fans are working and the switch is attached. I havn't got round the checking it works yet.

Hi Dave-the -Rave,
Thee were 2 Skorpions on ebay uk recently, and I'm guessing that you got one and I got the other. Mine is from a guy in North London, who had it for a year or so, and previously it seems to have been off the road for several years. Currently has 13000K (9000 miles) on it and feels and looks pretty fresh and seems to have led a very sheltered life. Would put some pics up but am being told that "the board attachment quota has been reached", so maybe later.
I have had big singles before, but not one that thrives quite so much on high revs - nothing much seems to happen under 4500rpm, the it all kicks in. I'm guessing that's the second choke on the carb coming in. As you say, quite hooliganish once you get it spinning!
Haven't found anything not working yet, except for the side stand which is very wibbly wobbly, so I'm using the main stand instead.
I think that makes 4 Skorps on the road in the UK, maybe we should all meet up at the Ace Cafe one day!
Best
Steve

Hi Steve. 'There's only 4 in the UK? Bloody 'ell.

Er Indoors bought hers from a guy in South London. He did say there had been another on ebay recently. Must be yours. We sometimes pop over to the Ace on a weekend for dinner. The food's pretty good.

Hope to see you there sometime. :smt023

I wondered who bought them and how long it would take to show up on this forum!!

Unfortunately, the data on there is mostly this: rubbish.

A lot of, perhaps most, MZs were registered without a model being listed on the V5. I even had a Saxon 125 once that was registered as a Dacia!

Eventually managed to get some pics of the missus's bike at the Ace Cafe in London today. After a good service and going over the wiring harness it's went from 40mpg to roughly 60mpg. That's UK gallons. Not bad at all I reckon. Also I swapped the bars over which means turning them upside down. That raises the bars by around an inch at least, without needing to change any cables or hoses.

I have a traveller and my Bars were way toooo low
and i spent 28 years on a bmw r90s

i need an upper triple clamp drilled for regular bars and risers
to fit a 97 traveller

dave

or even a picture of a traveller with regular bars would help
