Oil pressure warning light...

Postby f-4 » Fri Jul 03, 2015 4:46 am

...has started to come on when the bike is idling, plus lots of tappet noise. Light goes off at 2000 rpm and engine feels fine - I'm thinking possible oil pump issues? Bike is 11 years old, 20,000 miles and ridden infrequently. Would have to happen in the height of summer!

Update on strip down of bike.

Image

This is the contents of the sump - the orange material was blocking the oil pick-up and the metal item was in the bottom. The blocking of the oil pick-up filter would explain the low pressure, but I've no idea what the metal item is. I've been through the spares maps and nothing seems to tie in.

The orange material appears to be insulation from the alternator Image - has anyone else had this problem?

I think the metal piece is off your gear selector, seems a common fault. Have you noticed that the gear change is not as positive as it once was?

Yes, a few false neutrals. Have decided to put the bike back together and hope for the best! Have found out there are just three MZ 1000Ss registered on the road in the UK!

I was down at Grahams in Taunton and if its the bit I think it is they don't have any in stock and the number in the computer does not exist. You can download the manual and the spares fishe from his web site for free. I think you should do a bit more research, there are only about 3 ST's, 6 SF's and about 15 S's in the UK, but not all of them are on the road. The S model is the most common in the UK (if you count 15 as common).
