EZT 250 - Hows yours running....

Postby Andy_C » Sun Aug 27, 2017 8:56 am

Had my latest ETZ for over a year now, and it just seems to get better and better.

it was prettty rough when I bought it but after lots of fiddling / fettling it runs really really well.

I never ceased to be amazed at how eager it is to rev, in fact it seems to like being ridden hard - the more revs the better.

Also found that it runs better on unleaded rather than super unleaded.

Been riding it a lot lately.

Oh and meant to have said I am running a 1 tooth smaller than standard gearbox sprocket - all my riding is done 1 up.

I'm 1 tooth less at the front on my rebuild machine. The machine itself is still running in, but sometimes I can really feel that it is settling.

Compression must be really high as the bike occasionally starts up backwards when the start up has been finicky (cold etc), but re-starting normally sorts that out. The timing is actually set around 10 degrees before TDC so it is not the timing. It broke my tacho cable :(

10 degrees is not correct.
MZ says 22 degrees.

Or 2,6 mm before TDC.

That is why your engine starts backwards....

2.5mm before TDC is 30 degrees before TDC for me. That makes it run backwards 80% of the time and even switches whilst running. 1.5mm before TDC is 22 degrees and that makes it run backwards too.

This is what the german manual says:

Ignition timing: 3,0-0,5 mm before OT = 22°15'-2° Kurbelwinkel

I know, I have looked into it a lot. But doen't work for me. :smt006

I have a timing light with a degree offset and 22 degrees was 1.5mm before top dead. (for me..)

Following a moderator choice that is IMO biased and flawed (someone posting aggressive personal attacks is rewarded, while my technical posts are removed), I have withdrawn from this forum.
