According to the owners manual and the blue MZ workshop manual, the capacity is 0.9 Litres.

After putting 0.7 Litres into mine it comes out of the level screw.

Has mine been fitted with the gearbox cover from a 4 speed bike?

Any thorughts?

i had an r90s BMW the view hole was very low on the trans case
i always laid it on its side and gave it a full QT never had a bearing or gear problem

bunch of fellows did that did not fill it up

but the box was 5 speed but the seal at the foot shifting shaft was for a 4 speed

bunch of factory workers from several country's building bikes "a " and using English to
get it done

How did you drain the old oil ? Only by the oil draining screw on the bottom of the engine housing?
You also have to unscrew the one srew of the clutch cover that is below the control screw. This drains the clutch cover.
Maybe there was some oil left in the clutch cover when you filled it up again.
and surely it is possible that you have the wrong clutch cover.
Maybe you can show us a picture of your cover ?

Very interesting. I haven't seen the manual saying anything other than the drain screw on the bottom.
But, when I was replacing the oil, I did notice the clutch side not draining much. At the time I did try leaving it for a while and even leaning the bike.
But I never thought of that screw...

You do mean this one?

Thanks, for the clutch cover screw oil draining tip. Hopefully now I'll be able to take the majority out without gymnastics.

The main communication is the oil gallery up top. But there is a small hole next to the shifter shaft (both TS and ETZ). Its too high to be useful for draining the oil. It does, however, allow the oil to enter the clutch compartment. So, a ride is not necessary. If you wait a little bit, after the pour, it will start coming out of the level screw.

Yep.
For a full drain use the rear most bolt (closest to the centre-stand) and also that bottom most bolt that has been arrowed..

I like to remove the front (neutral ball) screw too just to clean out any gunk that collects there. Don't believe the crap that the engine will explode if you take this out.

I like to lean the bike on it's side (a small 2x4 block of wood under the RHS centrestand foot), and make sure it doesn't fall over..

I had actually been doing it wrong all these years myself, mis-reading the manuals about the 'drain' screw. C'est la vie.

All interesting stuff, I only used the drain plug to drain mine, did not think of the level screw and the casing screw.

When I drained it originally 0.6 Litres came out, and it took 0.7 Litres to bring it back up to the level screw, which suggests that there is 0.2 Litres not comming out !!

My cover looks identical to the one in the picture that Kruh posted above.

I have since drained the oil again (due to another issue) and yes, 0.7 Litres came out, so I shall remove the screw that Guessi has suggested and see if there is another 0.2 Litres in there somewhere.

Thanks evsryone.

I took that lower casing bolt out this evening, and tilted the bike over a little.

Out came almost exactly 0.2 Litres of oil, add that to the 0.7 Litres that came out of the main plug gives a total capacity of 0.9 Litres.

Many thanks for all the help.

Normally, the opposit is the case for me when i've recently been messing around with this..

abot 300-400ml comes out of the central screw, and the remaining out of the side screw.
